The day starts in Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus Christ. With your guide you begin at the Shepherds' Field in the small town of Beit Sahour, where a church marks the place an angel is believed to have announced the birth of Jesus to the shepherds. From there you continue into the old city to the Church of the Nativity, where a small star in a cave beneath the church marks the site where Jesus is believed to have been born, and your guide explains the history of one of the oldest churches in the world. The tour also visits the Milk Grotto Church, connected to the rest of Mary and Joseph before the flight to Egypt, along with St. Catharine Church, a handicrafts olive wood factory, and a cooperative souvenir store.
After Bethlehem the tour drives through neighboring villages into the Judean Desert, where the sandy mountains open up the landscape. A short stop is made at the Sea Level mark to take pictures and see the camels before continuing down to the Dead Sea. There you will have plenty of time to float in the mineral rich water, where the high concentration of natural salt makes floating effortless, and to cover yourself in the natural mud that many visitors enjoy for the skin.
