The day starts after pickup from your hotel with a panoramic view of the Old City of Jerusalem, taking in its old buildings, steeples, domes, and the Dome of the Rock. Going down the mountain you pass the Garden of Gethsemane, the Church of All Nations, and the Kedron Valley before reaching the Jewish Quarter, where you see the 1900 year old Byzantine Cardo and the Western Wall. You then walk the Via Dolorosa, the path Jesus walked to his crucifixion, and continue to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, which holds the burial tomb and the site of the crucifixion, before passing through the colorful markets of the Muslim Quarter.
The tour then drives to Bethlehem, where a local Palestinian Christian guide joins you. You visit Shepherds Field in the small town of Beit Sahour, where a church built by Antonio Barluzzi marks the place an angel announced the birth of Jesus to the shepherds. In the Old City of Bethlehem you enter the Church of the Nativity, where a small star in a cave under the church marks the believed birthplace of Jesus, along with Saint Catherine's Church, then the Milk Grotto Church, where Mary and Saint Joseph are believed to have rested before fleeing to Egypt. Lunch in Bethlehem and a stop at an olive wood factory and community store complete the day. All times are approximate.
